Are all mini usb cables compatible?

I have a number of gadgets ( camera’s phones, gps…) that have come with their own mini usb cable to attach to the computer. (mini usb for the device / standard usb connector for the computer) They seem interchangeable , is there any downside to using a cable that didn’t come from the OEM
nope.. i have like 5 different cables from 5 different accessories.. now i just leave it in the box.. i use a belkin usb-a to usb-b cable.. no problems.. i use it for almost everything.. Logitech remotes.. ps3 remote charging.. media card reader and such..
