can a mini usb cable have type B connectors at both ends?

try using Bluetooth…
The cable is not the issue. The problem is that a phone is a USB device, and if you connect two USB devices together, nothing will happen. Each device will simply wait for the master to configure it.
USB is not a symmetric bus. One end must be the master and the other end must be the device.
