Do I require an additional wireless card built in to my PC to enable a wireless USB connector to work?

usb connector

My home PC is not wireless and does not have a wireless card. I would like to enable this PC to become wireless by using a wireless USB connector; is this USB connector sufficient or do I require something else?

    Assuming that you have a wireless router, you’ll be fine with a wireless USB connector. Personally, I would go for a PCI wireless card.

    Nope, all you need is the wireless USB stick. It has all the technology on it you need to hook up wireless-ly.

  • You did what?:

    No. The wireless USB is all you need.

    Find out what kind of router you will be attaching to (B, G, N) and buy one of that type or faster.

    B= 11MB
    G=54MB
    N=300MB

    YOu will only get the best speed your router will provide but I always plan ahead. But faster is more expensive.

    thats all you need, but USB wireless cards are used for laptops. if you are using a desktop and have an open PCI slot use an internal wireless card.

    USB wireless cards are for desktops and notebooks. I have used them on both.

    PCMCIA cares are probably the best choice for laptops, especially if you are roaming.
