Do you need to use the supplied USB extension cable in order for the Nintendo WiFi USB Connector to work?

Can you just plug it into your computer, and run the software, or do you need to use the included USB cable? I’m planning on buying just the connector on ebay, but I saw on the Nintendo website that it might not work without the USB extension cable. Is that true?
No. I don’t know why they included the cable. I guess because if you had USB ports only in the back of the computer.
No it’s not true. You can just insert the Nintendo WiFi USB Connector into your computer.
