How do I find my friend-code for any DS game when using a Nintendo USB Connector?

I want to start exploring Animal Crossing with friends around the world but I don’t know where to find my friend-code or how to add theres.
I am using a Nintendo USB Connector currently for my Wii & DS, if that information helps.
Can anyone help me?
Go to the town gate and talk to one of the guards (sorry, I can’t remember it’s name). There will be a prompt for you to ask him for your friend code, select it. He will tell you your FC. There is also the option to put in your friend’s FC with this guard.
