It has a small range of tranmision and what it does is simply taking the connection you use on your computer and offer it as a wifi network. So any other devise that has a wifi receiver gets in the range of the Nintendo connector it is connected to the Internet. I must warn you though that you can't reach the maximum speed of your connection when using a usb transmitter like Nintendo's.
