Sony HDR-FX1 firewire port repair

UPDATE: This part # is A-1073-874-A FP-964 BOARD, COMPLETE and can be bought online for about . Thanks to Highlight0427 for finding it. My camera became difficult to connect to my PC, you could wiggle the cable sometimes, it got errors, and then stopped altogether. The connector would scratch and click when you plugged in the cord. RULE 1, use a cord that isn’t tight or difficult to insert, and don’t put pressure on the cable while inserted, I learned this the hard way. I was able to determine the port was the problem, but was apprehensive about attempting a repair on such an investment. My mind was changed when I looked and Sony’s repair cost started at 0+. This camera is about 2 years old, with maybe 20 hours of use and maybe 2 dozen connections with the pc. I am really disturbed at how cheap the firewire port is on a camera that cost several thousand dollars. Plus I wanted to connect a hard drive for direct recording, can’t imagine doing that now. I searched for a replacement part. www.partstore.com has 663 parts for this camera, and prices look reasonable, but there are no photos or clear descriptions. If you know this part(number), please comment and I will place it on here for others (as well as buy one). I purchased a new firewire port from www.mouser.com for under . You have to love a company that will let you buy 3 or 3000. The part number is 154-AVR20-E, it is slightly larger and requires some modification, but the pin outs match perfectly. You have to

Transcript of this video Hi, I’m John Harrington and we’re going to break out and break down the wide variety of equipment we use to deliver images to our clients. Next we are going to show you one of the equipment kits we use when we are traveling on assignment. Each kit is different and has a very specific purpose. So lets take a look. One other thing that goes with us everywhere we go is our laptop. It’s in an Encase Satchel, a really nice slim satchel for everything that we have in here. We have an 80 GB portable drive, that’s a USB drive. Also in here are firewire cords. One of the nice things is when we’re at a hotel, we can plug the airport express into our hotel and we don’t have to be tethered to the desk at the hotel. For the airline that’s considerate, we can plug this right into the power at our seats, or we can put the cigarette lighter adapter on and use it with a cigarette lighter. Here’s one of our two firewire card readers. Here’s a second firewire card reader. This is the new Lexar Card Reader; this is a SanDisk reader; two different brands, two different technologies, similar functions. This however is the newest one that lets us read the UDMA high-speed cards, which really takes advantage of the firewire 800 throughput. A power adapter for the laptop of course, a secondary battery. Here’s our Firewire 800, we use a g-tech drive. That’s really great because it doesn’t require an external power source

Question by Cotton Tablecloth: Will a USB 1.1 mini hub connect a USB 2.0 device to a USB 2.0 port?
Bought a new USB (2.0) External Hard Drive today. The clever salesman sold me a USB mini hub (on special!) which I only just discovered, upon getting home, is an old USB 1.1 mini hub.

Will the 1.0 hub pass through a 2.0 signal at 2.0 speeds?

I don’t want to open the thing unless I’m sure, because I’m planning on returning it.

Return it! It will not pass 2.0 signal.
Your hard disk will work, but at 1.0 speed.
