Just buy a USB card reader and take your camera out of the loop. I have a neighbor who owns a Canon and a Panasonic P&S .. both use different USB cords .. so she uses the SD card reader on her two computers ... if your computer does not have a card reader, then you can buy a $10 and you will not have to buy a new camera.
